1password as a portable app for windows

From what I can gather, 1Password is not portable in the sense that it does not run from a USB stick. I know that you have an HTML interface to the keychain, but that will generally leave a footprint on the computer that is being used and it is not tied into the browser. Also if you have 1password installed on your laptop, it is a big giveaway that you are carrying all your passwords with you. For example I carry my email etc in a Truecrypt volume, but Truecrypt itself I carry on a separate USB stick so that if I lose my disk there is no evidence that there is a truecrypt file on it. I have also seen that you dont think it will integrate with the browser if it is a portable app. Firefox and all my plugins are portabel and they work fine, plus firefox has a password manager (which I do not use for sensitive passwords) so there must be hooks in there to replace that with 1Password. I hope you reconsider your stance on this, since I think that you are missing a trick by not being fully portable. BTW I dont have an iphone or an ipad, and if I did, the argument would be the same about plausible deniability.

I would add that such a portable version likely would also solve the problem some of us have with not being able to install the latest versions of 1Password for Windows because of a lack of administrative rights.
  • RRRob, I think we've covered the admin-rights issue, as well as the portable-version issue, pretty thoroughly in these forums, over the months.

    If we're ever able to implement either, we'll make a lot of noise. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • Guess you have looked into (trying) VMWare Thinapp to make it 'portable' already, right?

I'm not certain that ThinApp is solving the same problem, but I'll mention it to the developers.
