Installing v1.0.0.121 as a non-admin
Options
Hi,
in previous versions it was always possible to install 1Password for Windows as a normal user, i. e. without administrator access - the installer just warned that it might not work (at least for me, it always did work). Now I can't install v1.0.0.121 at all, the installation just aborts with the message "You must be an administrator when installing this program."
Is there a workaround for this? Is this even an intended change? Because I won't get an administrator to install it for me, and not being able to use 1Password at work would be really tedious.

DIE_KUH, welcome to the forum!
I assume you're running the installer in Windows XP, because in Vista and 7 the installer has always needed an admin account's access.
In XP, as you note, there was at least a chance that a non-admin user could install the software and have it work correctly, so we thought we'd allow it. As it turned out, though, that caused several users several problems; we realized we needed the installer to work the same way in XP as in Vista and 7, which is to require admin privileges. As of 1.0.0.121, that's what you'll see.
No solution is perfect, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to XP users (like me!), but after a lot of research and consideration we believe it's the right thing to do.
Thanks for understanding!Flag 0 -

No, no, no! You're locking out all "corporate locked" PCs! And this makes 1password much less desirable (can no longer sync my home mac with my work PC)!
Please - let users decide if they want to install it as non-admin...Flag 0 -

The installer requires admin rights. 1Password itself does not. It should have no influence on 1Password's ability to sync because nothing has changed to the 1Password privileges.Flag 0 -

Well, the last version you could install without admin rights (v1.0.0.120) expires in two days. I (and, I suppose, many other corporate users with "locked" PCs) won't be able to update beyond this version. So it's no use if admin privileges are solely required for installation...
Ok, I can still copy/paste all the passwords from 1Password Anywhere (as long as I can access my Dropbox). As I said, that's tedious compared to just using the Firefox plugin. So _please_ just offer some sort of mobile package without an installer or make it possible to install the Firefox-plugin without having to use the main program. The plugin really is all I need at work. I would think I'm not the only one with this problem.Flag 0 -

It's working again - thanks! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Thanks for confirming that, DIE_KUH. 1.0.0.122 contains improvements to the updater/installer that should make things easier for people (like me) who work as a a non-admin user.
I'd like to thank Stefan for all he's done with this. With different users running in different ways across XP, Vista and Windows 7 this has been a complex issue.
Cheers,
