Menu bar item/menulet overflow
Hey, folks. This came up in another, unrelated thread. It may be helpful to a bunch of us and I thought it'd reach a wider audience in this forum. I dunno about you, but I have a ton of menu bar items. I try to be sensible/frugal about it, but somehow they keep multiplying, and now they're taking over the menu bar on even my 17" MBP screen. I can't imagine how people with smaller laptops deal with it.
So. What to do when there are so many icons that OS X starts hiding them?
I tried to find some sort of utility that would either scroll the menu bar items or add a menulet that would display a drop-down menu of the hidden items. Seems like something like this should already exist, so I feel like maybe I just didn't use the right search terms.
Anyone know of something like this?

It's too bad that Apple hasn't come up with a ">>" type element (like at the right of an overflowed toolbar or bookmarks bar in Safari, Finder, etc.) for the menubar when items get occluded like this. With my 15" laptop and desktops I'd have to switch applications to something that had a narrower footprint of menu bar items: Finder was often the winner in my case. This was less than optimum.Flag 0

I don't see any shortcut in Menuola (2.0). They only mention Cmd-Tab (of the OS). Is it what you referred to?
And how do you use quicksilver?
I too am trying Menuola. But it seems to be just a temporary/partial solution. You need to act in another application (Menuola) that the original (e.g. MS Word), so invoking something like TextExpander under Menuola does not insert what I want in MS Work.Flag 0 -
It uses cmd tab as default but I changed it to option m for me.
